Course Description:
This course provides an overview of how to utilize nasal naloxone (brand name NARCAN) to reverse a known overdose in emergency situations. Learners will gain an understanding of how nasal naloxone reverses an overdose and will review information pertaining to the epidemiology of opioid overdoses in the District of Columbia.
Course Objective:
By the end of this training, learners will be able to: 
  • List the names of common opioids
  • Identify an opioid overdose and the steps to administer naloxone to reverse an overdose
  • Describe the laws surrounding carrying and administering naloxone and other protections provided when seeking emergency medical help under safe reporting laws
  • Identify clinical best practices for working with patients who may have opioid use disorder
Intended Audience:
Licensed behavioral health and medical professionals (Physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, licensed counselors, etc).
